Opening Night Concert is resplendent with the majesty of rich, lyrical Russian music and the comedic timing of a thieving magpie! American cellist Julie Albers joins the WSO for Tchaikovsky’s melodic Variations on a Rococo Theme. Ms. Albers, recognized for her superlative artistry, her charismatic and radiant performing style , and her intense musicianship makes her WSO debut with this performance. The program concludes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, in four movements with a dramatic opening. The 1937 Leningrad premiere received an ovation that lasted well over half an hour!
